I am so excited to get behind anything supporting Furnish Hope! When I heard that Catwalk for a Cause had chosen Furnish Hope as their recipient and Megan had reached out to see if I could help - saying, “Yes” was easy (even though it’s a bit outside of my comfort zone) because I love everything about their mission! Our Central Oregon community is unique in that it makes space for what really matters: people. As people are made stronger so are the families they are a part of. I believe in investing wherever I am able in anything that strengthens families…because families are the foundation of any strong, thriving community. And Furnish Hope does just that.
And who exactly are you?
I’ve been called Shanda, the Shameless. Later this year you can hear more about that when my Project Hope book and workbook are released. Suffice it to say, hope is vital for all of us. Without it, we die. Hope is a bedrock. It’s a light in the darkness and the strength we need to go on when all else has given way. Hope results in faith. Hope doesn’t disappoint (Romans 5:5). And that’s another reason why it’s a privilege to help Furnish HOPE!!
What do I enjoy?
I’m renewed by time with Jesus, my family (6 kids, 3 in-loves, and two grandkids now!!) and my friends. I’m most energized when I’m in spaces filled with big, God-sized dreams (cue: Furnish Hope) and surrounded by people willing to be real, vulnerable and transformed. (These are people who know what it means to “speak the truth in love” from a kind heart and take new actions aligning with the discovery of truth). I come alive in nature-whether it’s hearing the wind in the trees, the song of the birds, or the roar of the ocean.
I grew up in a musical family and music runs deep in my bones. I love to play instruments, make tunes with others, and harmonize with whoever starts a melody-or just move to the groove being put down :) And I love (non adrenalin) movement of any and all types…especially the types so available here in Central Oregon. Paddle boarding, hiking, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, floating, running, mountain climbing, and the like!!
Why does a “home” matter?
The concept of home has evolved for me. As a child, my family moved a LOT and I craved a place that offered stability, identity and safety. Over time, I learned that a true home doesn’t need to be defined by a space. It is more defined by where love lives. A home is a place that is brought to life by love…and we, through what Furnish Hope provides, have an opportunity to bring homes to life by our investment of love.
I’m honored and excited to raise $5,000 and walk the runway in support of Furnish Hope and all the work they do to create homes for people in Central Oregon. As a realtor and community member, whatever I can do to strengthen this region I am for! So, here’s me asking for your support towards this awesome nonprofit cause!
