At 19 years old, Ana came to the United States from Nicaragua in search of opportunity. Years later, she faced a difficult decision to leave an abusive marriage to protect herself and her young daughter.
A Safe Place to Begin Again
They found safety in a shelter, but when permanent housing became available, a new uncertainty emerged. Like so many families starting over, Ana was grateful to have a home, but overwhelmed by the thought of how she could possibly furnish it.
“My daughter kept asking, ‘Are we going to have a bed?’ And I didn’t have an answer.”
More Than Furniture
Ana was referred to Furnish Hope through Saving Grace. What surprised her most wasn't simply receiving furniture. It was being invited to choose it.
Instead of taking whatever happened to be available, Ana selected the pieces that fit her needs and reflected who she was - like a set of yellow dishes simply because they made her smile.
Those choices mattered. Creating a home of her own became part of the healing process. Choosing what filled that home gave her a sense of ownership, dignity and the confidence to begin again.
With Furnish Hope’s help, her “heart felt complete” and she felt secure knowing they had a place to sleep, to eat and to begin building a new future.

Today, Ana is the proud owner of Ana's Creations and Alterations in Redmond, where she provides alterations and custom designs specializing in wedding dresses. Looking ahead, she is filled with hope for herself and her daughter.
