Through the Lens: Our Team’s Reflections

“My connection to Furnish Hope is personal. “- Robin Rodriguez

My parents divorced when I was six, and my mother worked three jobs to support my sister and me. Even then, there were things we simply couldn’t afford. I remember the generosity of friends and even strangers who helped us make ends meet - a kitchen table, mismatched chairs and other things that helped make our house feel like home.

Years later, I learned about Furnish Hope through a neighbor when I asked her where I could donate a washer and dryer. I looked up the organization, and the mission immediately resonated with me. Remembering the generosity my own family had received and wanting to give back, I began volunteering.

I enjoyed it so much that the following year, I decided to apply for a position. I’ve now been involved with Furnish Hope in some capacity for three years, first as a volunteer and now as an employee. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of an organization that brings so much hope to people throughout our community.

Today, I serve as both Warehouse Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, two roles that give me the opportunity to work with the donations and the people that make our mission possible.

As Warehouse Manager, I keep our constantly changing inventory of furniture and household essentials organized and moving. I love to organize, and with donations coming in and going out every day, there is always a new challenge. No two days are ever the same, so it never gets old. I still get excited to see what has come through our doors and think about the individual or family who will soon be able to use it in their home.

As Volunteer Coordinator, I have the privilege of working alongside an incredible group of people who generously give their time to Furnish Hope. I love their hearts to serve, and I’m so thankful for the relationships I’ve built with people I might never have met outside of this organization. I feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside them every day.

I have been blessed beyond measure, first as a volunteer and now as an employee. Knowing that the work we do each day can make someone feel supported, cared for and at home brings me great joy.

It is always a good day at Furnish Hope.
