The Del Cid Family: Hope Comes Full Circle
There’s something powerful about a first. Often, a first marks the beginning of something much bigger - something that ripples outward, creating lasting change in ways we can’t always predict.
For Furnish Hope, our first family - the Del Cid Family - was the beginning of our mission in action. A real need, a real opportunity and a real transformation.
Six years ago, Gustavo and Rosa Del Cid were living with their two young children - Lucas and Natalie - in a single room at Rosa’s parents’ home, working hard to provide for their family but struggling to make ends meet. Thanks to Habitat for Humanity, they were given the opportunity to become homeowners for the first time. But while they had a roof over their heads, they couldn’t afford to furnish their new space.
“We thought we’d have to live in an empty home for a while, slowly buying secondhand furniture one piece at a time. That would have taken years. And with both of us working, trying to balance school and family, the idea of moving into a home with nothing in it was overwhelming.”
That’s when Furnish Hope stepped in and transformed their empty house into a true home. Suddenly, they had a space where their family could grow, where their children could have rooms of their own and where daily life felt less like survival and more like living.
“It changed everything. Instead of sleeping on the floor or trying to figure out how to get a kitchen table, we got to move into a home. A home that felt full. A home that felt ours. And it made a difference - not just in how we lived, but how we felt. Because when parents are stressed, kids feel it too. But when you can breathe a little easier, when you feel safe and stable, your whole family starts to flourish.”
Today, their children ages 10 and 13 are thriving, and their daughter Natalie has even begun volunteering with Furnish Hope. “When someone believes in you,” Rosa says, “it gives you the courage to dream bigger - and to give back.”
